Interactions with people who have experienced trauma can unintentionally upset them or retraumatise them. Learn how to avoid this and maintain a professional relationship.

About the course

This course covers traumatic experiences and trauma responses, the principles of trauma-informed care, and how to apply this information to your practice as a solicitor. Each of these three parts takes about 30-40 minutes to complete. Using these practices can improve your interactions with clients who have experienced trauma and help them feel more comfortable with you. Those who work in criminal law and family law are very likely to encounter clients with histories of trauma, but all specialities will benefit from this course. Enrolling gives you 90 days to complete the course, and access to all course materials for that time. 

Dr Lynn Pazzani

I have over twenty years of experiences in higher education teaching criminology and criminal justice. I specialise in victimology and violence against women and girls (VAWG) and designed a certificate program to help students progress towards a career in victim services. I also served as a rape crisis counselor for many years, so I have seen trauma from an academic and practical perspective. I am passionate about improving services to victims of crime, and all those with histories of trauma. I want you to take what you learn in this course and make things just a little bit easier for those you work with.
